Men's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss At Indiana In Spring Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team opened spring play on the road with a 6-1 loss at Big Ten foe Indiana Monday afternoon in the IU Tennis Center.
The Cardinals started the match off strong in their doubles debut, taking the first point from the Hoosiers after winning on courts two and three. Marko Guzina paired up with teammate Conner Andersen on court two winning the match by a 6-3 decision over Indiana's Antonio Cembellin and Afonso Salgado. Ball State also was victorious at the No. 3 position, helping the Cardinals clinch the point as the Ball State duo of Tom Carney and Chris Adams took down the Hoosiers Andrew Redding and Bennett Crane also by a score of 6-3.
After that, the Hoosiers came back in singles action taking all six matches from the Cardinals. Adams did take his opponent Brandon Lam to three sets after taking the first frame from Lam 6-3, he then fell 6-3 in the second set before losing the third, 14-12.
The Ball State men's tennis team hosts Eastern Illinois (Jan. 20) and Belmont University (Jan. 21) for its home opening weekend, with both matches set to begin at 1 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
