Andersen Clinches 4-3 Win Over Cleveland State In Third Set

MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior Conner Andersen clinched the Cardinals 4-3 win over the Vikings Saturday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win, Ball State improves to 6-1 overall while Cleveland State drops to 5-3 on the year.
The Cardinals started the match on a high note after taking the doubles point from the Vikings. Nemanja Guzina paired up with Thibault de Negri on the top court for a 6-2 victory over Cleveland State's Benjamin Slade and Mirko Radosevic. Shortly after, Marko Guzina alongside Conner Andersen would clinch the win for Ball State after their 6-3 take down over Nico Mostardi and Matt Terry at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, the Vikings started to make a comeback early on as Cleveland State quickly earned straight set wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 slots. Chris Adams knotted the match 2-2 with his 7-6, 6-3 win over Benjamin Slade. After that, Terry pushed Cleveland State's lead to 3-2 with his three set thriller over Nemanja Guzina at No. 2 singles.
With two matches remaining, Bryce Bonin registered a three set defeat over Mirko Radosevic at position six. The match would come down to Andersen, as it has in previous competitions for the Cardinals this season. Andersen drop the first frame 7-6 to Gabriel Evtimov, he then came back to take sets two and three 6-3 and 6-4 to claim the victory for Ball State.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action when it hosts Lipscomb on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
