Cardinals Score 10 Runs in Victory Over Black Knights

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Ball State baseball team was back at The Shipyard Park for the final day of the Swig & Swine Collegiate Classic with a matchup against Army on Sunday.
Ty Johnson got the start on the bump for Ball State. Johnson recorded a three up, three down inning in the top of the first.
For the fourth-straight game, Amir Wright has led off with a hit for the Cardinals. Ryan Peltier followed with a double down the left field line to score Wright. Trenton Quartermaine kept things going with a single through the left side to give BSU runners on the corners. Nick Powell grounded out to first, but Peltier was able to score to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.
The Black Knights got two runs back in the top of the third and tied the game 2-2.
Wright started the bottom of the fifth off with a double in the right center gap. Peltier ripped a double down the left field line to score Wright from second. Zach Lane notched two RBIs with a single through the left side. BSU took a 5-2 lead into the sixth.
Army pulled within one, 5-4, after a two-run sixth. The Black Knights scored two more in the top of the seventh and claimed a 6-5 lead.
The Cardinals were resilient and answered in the bottom of the seventh. Justin Conant drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 6-6. Wright reached on an error by the third baseman, which allowed Decker Scheffler to score. Peltier drove in another run when he reached on a fielder's choice. Quartermaine extended the Ball State lead with two RBIs on a single to left center.
Neither team was able to score in the final two innings and BSU claimed a 10-6 victory.
Lane led the Cardinals with three hits for the game along with two RBIs. Peltier posted a team-high three RBIs along with three runs scored. Johnson got a no decision in five innings on the mound with five strikeouts and gave up three runs, two of which were earned. Sam Klein added an inning in relief and had two strikeouts with an unearned run. Jake Lewis surrendered two earned runs. Andre Orselli picked up the win in an inning of relief with a strikeout. Steven Washilewski pitched 1 1/3 innings with one strikeout. Zach Losey closed out the game with 2/3 of an inning and one strikeout.
Sean Dennehy got the loss in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Matthew Ronnebaum got the start and notched six strikeouts with five earned runs in four innings. Ross Friedrick had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate and drove in three RBIs.
The Cardinals return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 25, as they travel to the UNCW Seahawks. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
