
Softball Ends Season With 4-1 Loss To Central Michigan

OXFORD, Ohio - - The fourth-seeded Ball State softball team saw its 2023 season come to an end Friday afternoon with a 4-1 loss to third-seeded Central Michigan in Mid-American Conference Championship play at the Miami Softball Stadium.
The Chippewas (29-25) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring three in the first and one more in the second. The Cardinals (27-26) battled hard, however, but were only able to score one run in the top of the fifth.
In her final collegiate game, it was senior shortstop Amaia Daniel who provided Ball State's lone run with an RBI double off the glove of the diving Central Michigan shortstop. She finished the day 1-for-3 and concluded her stellar five-year career ranked ninth in program history with 201 career hits.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior designated player Samantha-Jo Mata tallied two more hits in Friday's game versus CMU and led the Cardinals over the course of the tournament with four total hits.
- Junior Francys King turned in a strong performance in relief, limiting Central Michigan to just two hits over 3.2 innings of work. She also struck out one of the 14 batters she faced.
- Junior center fielder Remington Ross picked up another huge outfield assist in the sixth inning, keeping it a three-run game as she threw a laser home to get the runner out trying to score from second on a single to center.
