Cardinals Finish Third, Four in Top 25 at John McNichols Invitational

Ball State completes second meet of the season
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State cross country team had four top-25 finishers en route to earning a third-place finish out of 14 at the John McNichols Invitational Saturday morning.
The Cardinals were paced by Elka Machan, who finished fourth behind a 5k time of 17:50 at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Carly Spletzer clocked in at 18:25 and was 15th.
Not far behind, Sarah Mahnensmith crossed the line in 21st at 18:38, while Juliana Stogsdill was 25th at 18:58.
Rounding out the counting scores, Kylee Mastin posted a time of 19:12, good for 31st. Jenna Schiffer trailed by just six seconds and finished 33rd with a time of 19:18.
Purdue won the event with 24 points, followed by Indiana (49), Ball State (87), Eastern Illinois (116) and Western Michigan (152) to complete the top five.
The Cardinals' next run is slated for Oct. 1 at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invite in Notre Dame, Ind.
