October 10, 2025 | Field Hockey
ATHENS, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team (3-11, 1-4 MAC) fell to Ohio University (4-9, 2-3 MAC) Friday afternoon in a heated defensive battle that saw a scoreless first half but woefully Ohio would score the lone goal of the contest to win today's ball game.Â
Â
It was another defensive battle for the Cardinals and the Bobcats int the first 30 minutes of play which saw each team bring an aggressiveness that limited both squads from scoring a goal in the first half.Â
Â
Ball State fired off two shots in the opening quarter and one in the second period but couldn't get either past the Bobcats defenders. The Cardinals only drew one penalty corner in the first stanza while the Bobcats had one opportunity as well in the second frame.Â
Â
After intermission, with only 13 seconds shaved off the clock Ohio's Tiana Nhamoinesu scored her first goal of the season to put the Bobcats on the board.Â
Â
Ball State tried to find an answer offensively but unfortunately couldn't connect off two shots and a penalty corner throughout the remainder of the ball game The Bobcats were limited to only one goal but that was enough to claim the victory.Â
Â
Emily Kate Covert led BSU offensively with two shots and one shot on goal while defensively goalie Carleigh Hofelich registered two saves.Â
Â
The Ball State field hockey team returns to non-conference action Tuesday when the Cardinals travel to Big Ten foe Michigan State for a 1 pm ET start at Ralph Young Field.Â
