Cardinals Aim to Extend Homecoming Streak Versus Akron
October 17, 2025 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State looks to extend its recent homecoming success Saturday when it hosts Akron for the Cardinals' 98th homecoming game at Scheumann Stadium.
The Cardinals have won three straight homecoming contests, their longest streak since 2000–02. With a win this weekend, Ball State would bring the streak to four for the first time since a seven-year run from 1992–98. Ironically, that run ended with a 31-9 loss to the Zips in 1999, one of three times the Zips have defeated Ball State on homecoming (1976, 1999 and 2016).
Ball State enters this weekend having defeated Connecticut (25–21 in 2022), Central Michigan (24–17 in 2023) and Northern Illinois (25–23 in 2024) in its last three homecoming appearances. A win Saturday would also mark Ball State's first three-game home winning streak since 2022, when the Cardinals saw a stretch of victories over Murray State (31-0), Northern Illinois (44-38) and the homecoming matchup versus UConn.
Akron last visited Muncie for homecoming in 2016, earning a 35–25 win. The teams have not met since 2021, a 31–25 Ball State victory in Akron. The series between the two programs is currently tied at 12–12–1 overall, though the Zips hold a 7–5–1 edge in games played in Muncie. Ball State's most recent home win over Akron came in 2014 (35-21).
Ball State's 98th homecoming game versus the Zips kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET at Scheumann Stadium. The game will be live on ESPN+ and WLBC 104.1 FM. Tickets to the game are still available.
