Field Hockey Suffers Loss to 18th-Ranked MAC Rival Miami
October 19, 2025 | Field Hockey
OXFORD, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team (4-13, 2-5 MAC) suffered a 5-0 setback on the road to its rival the Miami RedHawks (11-4, 6-1 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.Â
Â
Although, the Cardinals struggled offensively throughout the 60-minute duration of today's contest not all was lost for Ball State. Defensively, the Cardinals were able to attack the ball and limit the RedHawks from scoring in the second quarter of today's contest, a feat not many teams have been able to accomplish this season.
Â
Ball State held Miami to only one goal in the first half of play. Only two other Mid-American Conference teams have been able to restrict the RedHawks from only scoring one goal in the first 30 minutes of action which were UMass and JMU.Â
Â
The Cardinals knew today's contest would be a tough task defensively, as the RedHawks rank second in the country in goals per game (4.0) and ninth in penalty corners with Miami drawing 18 today from Ball State.Â
Â
Also, on a positive note, other MAC squad besides Ball State, UMass and JMU have let Miami score six or more goals against them this season.Â
Â
Giving the circumstances, BSU goalie Carleigh Hofelich was successful after facing 14 shots on goal, 18 corners while tallying nine saves.
Â
The Ball State field hockey team will host Appalachian State for its home finale on Friday. The game is slated for a 1 pm ET start in the Briner Sports Complex.Â
