
Women’s Golf Hosts Brittany Kelly Classic Starting Monday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's golf fans can get their first glimpse of the Cardinals at home this season starting Monday, when the team hosts the annual Brittany Kelly Classic at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana.
The two-day event, named in honor of former Ball State women's golf standout Brittany Kelly (2007-11), will feature 54 holes of action on the 72-par, 6,262-yard course. The opening two rounds take place Monday (Sept. 15) starting at 9 a.m., while the final round tees off at 9 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 16). Both days will feature shotgun starts.
Joining the Cardinals will be Mid-American Conference rival Ohio, along with Dayton, Indiana Wesleyan, IU Indy, Lindenwood, UIC and Valparaiso.

Kelly, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the fall of 2019, was named the 2022 Indiana PGA Golf Professional of the Year. The first female recipient of the honor, which originated in 1955, Kelly started her professional career at The Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers and most recently worked at Woodland Country Club in Carmel.
In addition, for her contributions over her entire golf career (starting as a player in junior events with the Indiana Junior Tour), the Indiana Section of the PGA named the Indiana PGA Women's Player of the Year Award in Kelly's honor.
At Ball State, Kelly was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection and a two-time All-American Scholar over her career which spanned from 2007-08 to 2010-11. She became the first Ball State women's golfer selected for an NCAA Regional during a phenomenal senior season in 2010-11. She finished her career with BSU records for single-season scoring average (75.06), career scoring average (76.43) and 54-hole tournament score (215).
She passed away at the age of 32 on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, just prior to her induction into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Following the Brittany Kelly Classic, the Cardinals return to action Sept. 23-24 at 16-team Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.
THIS WEEK'S LINEUP:
All nine Cardinals will hit the course this weekend with Jasmine Driscoll, Sabrina Langerak, Sophie Korthuijs, JJ Gregston and Skylar Dean competing for the team. It will be Dean's collegiate debut.
Playing as individuals will be Sarah Gallagher, Madelin Boyd, Jenna Estravillo and Madelyn Young.

- Ball State has won the last two Brittany Kelly Classic titles, including taking last season's event by 11 strokes … The Cardinals' team score of +14 (878) last season was second-lowest team score in the three previous Brittany Kelly Classics (2022-24); three strokes shy of the then-program record +11 (875) the Cardinals shot to win the 2023 title.
- The 2025 Brittany Kelly Classic will be the 22nd fall tournament the Cardinals have hosted at The Players Club at Woodland Trails … Prior to the last three seasons, the event was known as the Cardinal Classic … Ball State has won the event title five times: 2008, 2012, 2019, 2023 & 2024 … The event was also once at the Delaware Country Club in the spring of 2008, with the Cardinals also winning that event.
- After turning in a score of +4 (220: 72-75-73) to open the 2025-26 campaign at the Boilermaker Classic (Sept. 1-2), senior Jasmine Driscoll maintains the lowest average score in program history at 75.89 as she looks to defend her 2024 Brittany Kelly Classic title … Just the third Ball State women's golfer to earn both medalist honors at the MAC Championships and an individual berth to the NCAA Regional, Driscoll has tallied 18 career rounds at-or-below par, including a career-low round of -5 (67) in the opening round of the 2025 MAC Championships.
- Jasmine Driscoll is not the only Ball State golfer looking to etch her name in the Cardinals' record book as classmate Sarah Gallagher currently sits third in program history with her 76.24 career stroke average … Junior JJ Gregston moved up to sixth after her score of +9 (225) lowered her career average to 77.13 … Also in the top 10 among BSU's active players who have reached the minimum of 48 career rounds is senior Madelin Boyd in 10th at 77.85.
- Sophomore Sophie Korthijs is also on pace to break into the top 10, with her career average of 75.87 over 23 rounds currently ahead Jasmine Driscoll's mark … Last season, she turned in the 11th-best single season scoring in program history at 76.05 and started the 2025-26 campaign with a score of +8 (224) at the Boilermaker Classic (Sept. 1-2).
- The team turned in a solid start at the Boilermaker Classic (Sept. 1-2) turning in its three lowest rounds ever on the Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana … Ball State started the season with a rounds of +11 (299), +8 (296) and +5 (293) to finish sixth among a highly talented field … The effort helped the Cardinals top a pair of NCAA Regional teams from a year ago, in Western Kentucky (+40; 904) and Georgia Southern (+42; 906).
- Ball State also picked up a head-to-head win over a current power conference program for the second straight season at the Boilermaker Classic (Sept. 1-2), topping Iowa (+29; 893) … Prior to last season's head-to-head win over Wisconsin at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational (April 12-13, 2025), Ball State had not topped a power conference school since the 2013-14 campaign.
